Friday April 12th 2019 was the official launch of our Gary Moore Statue fundraising project with a sellout show at The Belfast Empire. Our official photographer was the amazing Keery Irvine, who took some brilliant shots.
Tom Davies (UK)
Opening the show was young Tom Davies (15yo) from UK who travelled over from the mainland to play us some of your favourite Gary Moore tunes. Tom made it look so easy to play Gary’s songs so effortlessly, and was also joined by Patricia Moore who sang one of Gary’s songs while Tom played guitar.
Sam Davidson’s Taste
Next up was Belfast band and festival favourites, Sam Davidson’s Taste who pumped out Rory Gallagher tunes from his Taste era, along with some well known blues songs which were also favourites of Gary’s.
ERIC BELL TRIO
Next was our headline act, Thin Lizzy founder and guitarist Eric Bell along with Romek and Dave, The Eric Bell Trio who rocked out with some great blues and original songs, including of course Whiskey in the Jar, The Rocker and a tear-jerking “Song for Gary”. A song written by Eric in 2016 for his dear friend Gary Moore.
Gerry Quigley & The Nomadic Druids
Mesmerising melodies and soaring guitar riffs inspired greatly by Gary, who was the first guitarist Gerry ever saw play in his life as Skid Row and Thin Lizzy rehearsed in his own house in Dublin.
PATRICIA MOORE Band
Patricia Moore band rocked the house with amazing renditions of a Gary’s own songs, along with one special song written by Patricia herself. This band was so good, they really should have been the first band of the night, and opened the show. We’ll make sure things are different next time.
